LIRR Digest – July 29, 2015

Dear friends,

I hope you are all able to find yourself being in touch with the land in all its summer glory and fruitfulness, and letting it heal and teach you.  I am off on vacation myself to Calgary and the BC Naskup valley for the next 2 weeks,  so you will have some relief from emails from me!  In the meantime, my colleagues are gearing up for General Council 42 in Cornerbrook, NFLD and I encourage you to watch what you can online.  Check the website http://www.gc42.ca/ for what’s happening.  Commissioner Marie Wilson and AFN Chief Berry Bellegarde will be speaking, the Aboriginal Ministries Council will be presenting on Monday, Aug. 10, and worship on Wednesday on the theme “to live with respect in creation” promises to be enriching.  I am sure there will be other highlights too.

Contact Sandi Boucher (807) 285-0044 or Toll Free 1-844-282-0311 or email: sandi.boucher@shaw.ca  to offer assistance and make arrangements to join the walkers.

HEALING FOR RETIRED RCMP OFFICER WHO REMOVED CHILDREN FROM HOMES TO GO TO IRS
Creating safe spaces where people can share stories and listen to each other is a profound healing ministry.  This is an amazing story of grace and connection – a retired RCMP officer who felt it was wrong to remove children from their homes to go to school, the Mushkegowuk Walkers, the United Church in North Bay, ON, and the TRC in Ottawa.

Ponder the responses received when Angus Reid asked Canadians such questions as
1) Would you say the TRC has been worthwhile for Canada as a whole?
2) How closely are you following this issue?
3) Do you support or oppose [some specific] TRC recommendations?
4) Are you optimistic or pessimistic that the TRC process will result in a better situation for Canada’s Aboriginal peoples?
